Play!: In-game
On the Play! emulator's compatibility tracker, the best result for The Warriors is "In-game" (NTSC-U, SLUS-21215).
Can you play The Warriors in your browser?
Partly. Play! gets The Warriors into gameplay, but the tracker lists major bugs that prevent playing it through. Use our browser emulator. Keep in mind that the tracker covers Play! on every platform, and its browser version is described by the project as an experiment, so results in a browser can be worse than on a desktop.

Which The Warriors disc should you use?
The tracker lists one disc for this game: the NTSC-U release, serial SLUS-21215, reported as In-game. It was last tested on 10 September 2022, and the issue shows activity from the same day. The tester describes it as in-game, very slow, and with almost no visual problems, citing high EE usage. They also report an input problem: the top-left and top-right diagonals cannot reach full range, so the character can only walk, not run, in those directions. The report carries the idledetection label.
No PAL disc has a report on the tracker, so there is nothing to compare for a European copy. The tracker covers Play! on all platforms, and a browser may do worse than these notes suggest.
What testers reported for The Warriors
Notes from the volunteers who tested The Warriors on Play! and filed the tracker reports. They describe the emulator at the time of each test; newer builds may behave differently, and the browser version can perform worse than desktop.
NTSC-U (SLUS-21215), tested September 10, 2022
- In-game with almost no visual issues, but very slow (high EE usage).
- There is also an input issue: the maximum diagonal range cannot be reached for the top left and top right, so the character can only walk, not run, in those directions.

How to play The Warriors in your browser
- Make a disc image (for example an ISO) from your own copy of The Warriors. We do not provide game files.
- If you have a choice of versions, the NTSC-U release (SLUS-21215) has the best reported result.
- Open our browser emulator in a recent version of Chrome or Firefox.
- Pick your disc image. Play!.js reads the file locally inside your browser (as its source code shows); it is not uploaded.
The Warriors controls in the browser emulator
Play!.js is played with the keyboard. Its default layout maps the PS2 controller like this; the browser build sets up no gamepad bindings by default. Click the game screen once before you start: the emulator listens for key presses on its game screen, so keys only register while it has focus.
| PS2 controller | Keyboard |
|---|---|
| D-pad | Arrow keys |
| Left analog stick | T / F / G / H (up / left / down / right) |
| Right analog stick | I / J / K / L |
| Cross ✕ | Z |
| Circle ○ | X |
| Square □ | A |
| Triangle △ | S |
| L1 / L2 / L3 | 1 / 2 / 3 |
| R1 / R2 / R3 | 8 / 9 / 0 |
| Start | Enter |
| Select | Backspace |

About The Warriors (PS2)
Rockstar Toronto developed The Warriors, a 2005 beat 'em up that Rockstar Games published. It adapts a 1979 film of the same title and appeared in October 2005 on PlayStation 2 and Xbox, with a PlayStation Portable version following in February 2007. The story is set in 1970s New York City, where the Warriors street gang is blamed for killing a respected gang boss and has to get back to Coney Island while rival gangs and the police hunt it.
The game expands on the film instead of simply retelling it: its first half covers events from three months before the film begins. Actors from the film came back to voice their characters, and the soundtrack uses songs from the film. Wikipedia reports very positive reviews, with critics praising the controls, design, sound, music and plot, and says many considered it a worthy adaptation of the film. It was later re-released through the PlayStation Network, on PlayStation 3 in May 2013 and then PlayStation 4 in July 2016.

How The Warriors plays
Fighting is the center of the game: large-scale brawls in 3D city environments, mixed with other activities such as chase sequences. Several gang members are playable over the course of the story, but you control only one per mission while computer-controlled partners cover the rest. Most missions involve attacking rival gangs' territory, and Wikipedia counts eighteen story missions plus five bonus flashbacks showing how particular members came into the gang.
Combat runs in real time. Weak attacks, strong attacks, holds and throws can be chained into combos of two or three presses, and grabs can lead into a character's own power attack. Other Warriors fight alongside you, from a minimum of one to a maximum of eight. When the rage meter is full, the character becomes temporarily invincible and can use finishing moves. Health is shown by a bar below the character's feet and can be restored with flash, an item dropped by defeated enemies.
Between missions, the gang's headquarters serves as a hub where you can train to build stamina, talk to other members, or head out to Coney Island for extra missions. Side activities include mugging, spray-painting graffiti to mark turf or insult people, and stealing items such as car radios and jewelry. Points earned this way unlock soldiers, arenas and modes for Rumble Mode, the free-for-all multiplayer mode. Finishing the story also unlocks an arcade game, Armies of the Night.

The Warriors emulator FAQ
Is there a The Warriors website to play online?
We are not aware of an official way to play The Warriors online. What exists are browser-based PS2 emulators, such as Play!.js, that run a disc image of the game you own. We do not host or link to game files.
Do I need a PS2 BIOS to run The Warriors?
Not with Play!. It emulates the PS2 system software at a high level, so no BIOS file is required.
Which version of The Warriors has been tested in Play!?
Only the NTSC-U disc, SLUS-21215. The tracker lists it as In-game, not Playable: very slow with high EE usage, but with almost no visual issues. The test dates from September 2022, and a browser build may perform worse than the desktop-focused notes suggest.
Is The Warriors based on the movie?
Yes. It adapts the 1979 film, recreates scenes from it, and adds a new storyline showing how the gang came together. The first half covers events from three months before the film begins. Actors from the film came back to voice their characters.
Does The Warriors have multiplayer?
Yes. Rumble Mode is the free-for-all multiplayer mode, and points earned during the story unlock soldiers, arenas and modes for it. Wikipedia also quotes a reviewer mentioning a two-player co-op mode. Whether multiplayer works in Play! is not covered by the tracker report.
Who made The Warriors?
Rockstar Toronto developed it and Rockstar Games published it. The PlayStation Portable port came from Rockstar Leeds. Wikipedia credits Paramount Pictures in connection with the license for the game.
Can I save my progress in a browser?
In the browser version, saves are lost when you close or reload the page, and your disc image stays in the browser rather than being uploaded. The tracker report for this disc mentions no save problems, but it only tests that the game reaches gameplay, so it is worth checking saves yourself.
