Can you play Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War in your browser?

Partly. Play! gets Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War into gameplay, but the tracker lists major bugs that prevent playing it through. Use our browser emulator. Keep in mind that the tracker covers Play! on every platform, and its browser version is described by the project as an experiment, so results in a browser can be worse than on a desktop.

Which Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War disc should you use?

The Play! compatibility tracker lists two discs, and both are marked In-game. The North American disc, SLUS-21346, was tested on May 27, 2019. The tester wrote that the memory card does not seem to work properly and that there seem to be issues with mipmaps, and the tracker tags the entry with memory card and mipmapping issues.

The European disc, SCES-54041, sold as Ace Combat: The Belkan War, was tested on May 29, 2019. It has no written note, only a mipmapping tag. The PAL entry does not mention the memory card, but that does not show saving works there. The tracker covers Play! on all platforms, so browser results may be worse than these reports.

How to play Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War in your browser

  1. Make a disc image (for example an ISO) from your own copy of Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War. We do not provide game files.
  2. If you have a choice of versions, the NTSC-U release (SLUS-21346) has the best reported result.

  4. Pick your disc image. Play!.js reads the file locally inside your browser (as its source code shows); it is not uploaded.

Play!.js is played with the keyboard. Its default layout maps the PS2 controller like this; the browser build sets up no gamepad bindings by default. Click the game screen once before you start: the emulator listens for key presses on its game screen, so keys only register while it has focus.

About Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War (PS2)

Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War, a PlayStation 2 flight combat game by Namco, belongs to the Ace Combat series. It launched in Japan on March 23, 2006, in North America on April 25, 2006, and in Europe on September 15, 2006, where it carries the shorter title Ace Combat: The Belkan War. Wikipedia notes that the Japanese release was Namco's last, while the North American release was the first from the newly formed Namco Bandai Games.

The story is set in the series' fictional world of Strangereal, before the events of most other entries. You fly as Cipher, who leads Galm Team, a mercenary fighter squadron, during the Belkan War. Director Naoto Maeda envisioned a memorable mini theatre film centered on air combat and replayability, and development took a year, making it the only entry in the series finished on schedule. Reception was generally positive: the game holds 75 out of 100 on Metacritic, and by January 2008 shipments had reached 792,000 copies around the world. Critics praised the plot, graphics and refined mechanics but faulted its lack of innovation.

How Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War plays

The game has a single-player campaign and a two-player versus mode. The controls and systems borrow from both Ace Combat 04 and Ace Combat 5. Most of the aircraft are older fighters carried over from earlier games, including the F-15C, the F/A-18C and second- and third-generation designs like the Saab 35 Draken. Your starting hangar holds three aircraft, the F-5E, F-1 and J35J, and credits from completed missions and destroyed targets buy and unlock more advanced ones. The fictional ADFX-01 Morgan superfighter debuts here.

Each plane can carry up to three special weapons, such as air-to-surface missiles or thermobaric bombs, but you pick only one per mission. During long missions you can leave the battlefield to rearm at an allied airbase. You can also give orders to your AI wingman with the DualShock's D-pad and choose the wingman's armament, though not the aircraft. Enemy aces fly planes with unique paint schemes, and beating them adds their plane and a short pilot biography to an in-game digital album.

The standout system is Ace Style, a reputation meter driven by your conduct. Shooting down a crippled aircraft, destroying a surrendering enemy or attacking a neutral target shifts it, as does sparing such targets. The debriefing bar slides among Mercenary, Soldier and Knight. Your Ace Style affects the radio chatter, which enemy ace squadrons you meet, and which cutscenes play, and at the end it unlocks color schemes for the planes you collected.

Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War emulator FAQ

Is there a Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War website to play online?

We are not aware of an official way to play Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War online. What exists are browser-based PS2 emulators, such as Play!.js, that run a disc image of the game you own. We do not host or link to game files.

Do I need a PS2 BIOS to run Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War?

Not with Play!. It emulates the PS2 system software at a high level, so no BIOS file is required.

Which version of Ace Combat Zero works best in a browser emulator?

Both discs on the Play! tracker are marked In-game. The North American disc (SLUS-21346) has a note about the memory card and mipmaps, and the European disc (SCES-54041) is tagged for mipmapping only. Neither is reported as Playable, and browser results may be worse.

Why is the European version called Ace Combat: The Belkan War?

Wikipedia says the game is known in the PAL region as Ace Combat: The Belkan War, without the Zero in the title. The tracker's European entry for the disc SCES-54041 uses the full name with Zero.

Can I save my progress in Ace Combat Zero?

The tracker note for the North American disc says the memory card does not seem to work properly, and the European report does not address saving. In the browser version, saves are kept only in memory while the page is open, so they are lost when you close or reload it.

Is Ace Combat Zero part of a series?

Yes, it belongs to the Ace Combat series. Wikipedia says its mechanics combine features from Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies and Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War, and chronologically its story sits earlier than most of the series.

What is the Ace Style system in Ace Combat Zero?

It is a reputation system that tracks how you treat non-hostile and crippled targets. The bar moves toward Mercenary, Soldier or Knight, and it influences radio chatter, which ace squadrons you encounter, which cutscenes play and which plane color schemes you unlock.
