Which James Bond 007: Nightfire disc should you use?
The Play! compatibility tracker lists two Nightfire discs with different statuses. The European disc, SLES-51258, is marked Playable. It was tested on June 7, 2024, and the note says "Fully playable with good performance." The North American disc, SLUS-20579, is marked In-game, tested on February 8, 2023, with a note describing it as in-game and slow and saying more testing is needed to confirm it is fully playable. The tracker also tags that entry as needing testing.
For choosing a disc, the European one has the stronger and more recent report. The tracker does not say why the two differ, and the American result is described as preliminary, so the gap may reflect testing rather than the discs. The tracker covers Play! on all platforms, so browser results may be worse than listed.

About James Bond 007: Nightfire (PS2)
James Bond 007: Nightfire is a first-person shooter published by Electronic Arts. Eurocom developed the console versions, which include the PlayStation 2 edition released in North America on November 19, 2002 and in Europe on November 29, 2002. The game also appeared on GameCube, Xbox and Windows, with Game Boy Advance and Mac OS X versions following later. Wikipedia adds that the North American console launch arrived alongside the Bond film Die Another Day in theaters.
You play as James Bond, who investigates the operations of an industrialist and uncovers a scheme to conquer the world through a major defense satellite built by the United States. The game uses Pierce Brosnan's likeness, though Maxwell Caulfield voices the character, and it was the first Bond game with an original song, "Nearly Civilized" by Esthero. The console versions received generally favorable reviews, with praise for the gameplay, multiplayer and character models. Sales across every platform reached five million by September 2003, and the PlayStation 2 edition earned an ELSPA Platinum award for United Kingdom sales.

How James Bond 007: Nightfire plays
Nightfire has two modes: a single-player campaign of story missions and a multiplayer mode. It plays from a first-person view with a range of weapons based on real models but given alternate names, as in earlier Bond games. Health works like GoldenEye 007 from 1997: a meter drains as you take damage, and armor can be picked up to absorb hits.
In single-player you complete a set of objectives in each mission, making use of gadgets while dealing with hostiles, then reach the exit. Levels hide "007 tokens" that unlock special rewards. You can also perform "Bond Moments", using gadgets and parts of the environment to take out enemies, open hidden paths or destroy obstacles, which count toward your performance rating. Some levels add driving sections in the style of the Spy Hunter games, where you follow a linear route from start to finish using weapons and gadgets against enemies. A score at the end of each level reflects how well you did.
Multiplayer pits players against each other and against AI bots across stages drawn from the missions and from the Bond films, including Fort Knox from Goldfinger and the Atlantis base of The Spy Who Loved Me. The playable cast includes film figures like Jaws, Baron Samedi, Max Zorin and Auric Goldfinger, and adjust match length, winning conditions and bot settings. The PlayStation 2 version allows four bots.
