About Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (PS2)
Ubisoft Montreal developed Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, an action-adventure title from 2003. It is a fresh start for a franchise that Jordan Mechner originated, and he contributed as consultant, designer and scenario writer. The PlayStation 2 version arrived in North America on November 11, 2003, and the game was also released on the Game Boy Advance, GameCube, Xbox and Windows.
You play an unnamed Prince who takes an artifact called the Dagger of Time during an attack on an ancient city. After a treacherous Vizier tricks him into releasing the Sands of Time at the Sultan of Azad's palace, the palace's people turn into monsters. With Farah, a young Princess who understands the Sands, he sets out to fix his mistake. Wikipedia reports critical acclaim, and says sales were slow at first but the game later passed 14 million copies worldwide across platforms. It also led to the sequel Warrior Within in November 2004.

How Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time plays
Wikipedia calls the game an action-adventure puzzle-platformer. You control the Prince through a third-person view where the camera shifts when you enter certain areas. He can move blocks and levers tied to mechanisms. Health is restored by drinking from pools and fountains, and you reach a game over if traps or enemies drain it all. Farah helps at points in the story as an AI-controlled archer, though her arrows can hit you, and the game also ends if she is killed.
Exploration means crossing areas full of pits of spikes, arrow launchers, blades and saws on walls, and spinning stakes. The Prince's signature move is wall-running, and he can also climb ledges, walk along beams, swing on poles and ropes, and jump between pillars. Large environmental puzzles span several areas, and many need Farah's help.
In combat, he fights Sand-created monsters using a sword and the Dagger of Time. A damaged enemy can only be finished by stabbing it with the Dagger. The Dagger's power comes from Sand collected from enemies and the palace. Rewind, the basic power, lets you undo up to ten seconds of a fatal mistake. Sand Tanks fuel three offensive powers that slow time around the Prince, freeze one enemy, or freeze everything so he can strike while foes cannot move. Large columns of Sand serve as save points and offer visions of areas ahead.
