Can you play God of War II in your browser?

Partly. Play! gets God of War II into gameplay, but the tracker lists major bugs that prevent playing it through. Use our browser emulator. Keep in mind that the tracker covers Play! on every platform, and its browser version is described by the project as an experiment, so results in a browser can be worse than on a desktop.

Which God of War II disc should you use?

The Play! tracker lists two discs for God of War II, both In-game. The North American disc (SCUS-97481) was tested on 2022-01-11 and the note says only In-game, needs more testing. The PAL disc (SCES-54206) was tested on 2019-04-12 and is reported to stall right after the Sony Computer Entertainment logos, so the main menu is out of reach.

Neither disc is reported as Playable. In-game means gameplay is accessible but major bugs prevent playability, though the PAL note describes a stall before the menu. The North American report is the more recent and hopeful of the two, but with tracker results covering all platforms, a browser run may do worse.

What testers reported for God of War II

How to play God of War II in your browser

  1. Make a disc image (for example an ISO) from your own copy of God of War II. We do not provide game files.
  2. If you have a choice of versions, the NTSC-U release (SCUS-97481) has the best reported result.
  3. Open our browser emulator in a recent version of Chrome or Firefox.
  4. Pick your disc image. Play!.js reads the file locally inside your browser (as its source code shows); it is not uploaded.

God of War II controls in the browser emulator

Play!.js is played with the keyboard. Its default layout maps the PS2 controller like this; the browser build sets up no gamepad bindings by default. Click the game screen once before you start: the emulator listens for key presses on its game screen, so keys only register while it has focus.

About God of War II (PS2)

God of War II blends action-adventure with hack-and-slash combat. Santa Monica Studio made it and Sony Computer Entertainment published it. It was released for the PlayStation 2 in North America on March 13, 2007 and in Europe on April 27, 2007. It is the second game in the God of War series and a sequel to the 2005 original.

The setting is ancient Greece, drawn from Greek mythology, with vengeance as the central theme. Kratos, who became the new God of War after killing Ares, is betrayed and killed by Zeus. Gaia saves him as he is dragged toward the Underworld and sends him after the Sisters of Fate. They can send him back in time so he can avoid the betrayal and take revenge. Cory Barlog served as game director after David Jaffe moved to creative director.

Wikipedia reports universal acclaim from critics, a Golden Joystick Awards title of PlayStation Game of the Year for 2007, and 4.24 million copies sold by June 2012. A remastered version later appeared in the God of War Collection for the PlayStation 3.

How God of War II plays

It is a single-player game seen from a fixed third-person camera. You control Kratos through combo-based combat, platforming and puzzles. Enemies mostly come from Greek myth, such as harpies, minotaurs, Gorgons and cyclopes, with some creatures made just for the game. Wikipedia says it has more than double the number of boss fights of the original, plus harder puzzles. Platforming involves climbing, jumping chasms, swinging on ropes and balancing on beams.

Kratos fights with the Blades of Athena, blades on chains, and gains weapons such as the Barbarian Hammer and the Spear of Destiny. He can learn up to four magical abilities, and a Rage of the Titans power replaces the earlier rage ability and, unlike it, can be toggled freely. Quick time events let you finish stronger enemies and bosses.

New relics are needed to progress, including the Amulet of the Fates, which slows time for puzzle solving, the Golden Fleece, which deflects projectiles, and Icarus' Wings, which let him glide over chasms. Hidden Uber Chests raise your health and magic. The challenge mode, Challenge of the Titans, has seven trials, and clearing it and other goals unlocks costumes, videos and concept art.

God of War II emulator FAQ

Is there a God of War II website to play online?

We are not aware of an official way to play God of War II online. What exists are browser-based PS2 emulators, such as Play!.js, that run a disc image of the game you own. We do not host or link to game files.

Do I need a PS2 BIOS to run God of War II?

Not with Play!. It emulates the PS2 system software at a high level, so no BIOS file is required.

Which version of God of War II works best in a browser emulator?

Neither disc is rated Playable on the Play! tracker. The North American disc (SCUS-97481) is In-game and needs more testing. The PAL disc (SCES-54206) gets stuck after the logos. Browser results may be worse than these platform-wide reports.

Is God of War II a sequel?

Yes. It is the second game in the series and follows the 2005 original. Wikipedia says God of War III arrived in 2010, and that the first two games were remastered in the God of War Collection for the PlayStation 3.

Who made God of War II?

Santa Monica Studio developed it and Sony Computer Entertainment published it. Cory Barlog was game director, and David Jaffe, who directed the first game, became creative director. It uses the studio's Kinetica engine.

Can I save my progress in God of War II in a browser?

In the browser version, saves are kept only in memory while the page is open, so they are lost when you close or reload it. Given the tracker's In-game status, you may not get far enough to save.

Does God of War II have multiplayer?

No. Wikipedia describes it as a single-player game, and in a pre-release interview game director Barlog said he saw the series as a single-player experience.
